AP: Alicia Keys Confirms Pregnancy Rumors and Marrying Swizz Beats

The Associated Press confirmed last night that Alicia Keys is indeed pregnant with her first child, and also plans to marry Swizz Beats soon.

NEW YORK — Alicia Keys is in a motherhood state of mind: She's pregnant with her first child.

The Grammy Award-winning R&B singer has been dating producer Swizz Beatz, who has written hits for Beyonce (bee-AHN'-say), Jay-Z and others. They're engaged to be married at a private ceremony later this year.

Representatives for the couple confirmed the news Thursday night.

Keys last year teamed up with Jay-Z for a hit song about New York called "Empire State of Mind." She's among a string of international artists slated to perform at a June 10 concert to mark the start of the World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa.

Beatz has been married before and has two sons.

R.I.P. Lena Horne (1917-2010)

Legendary African-American singer, actress, humanitarian, and activist Lena Horne died on Mothers Day (May 9th) at 92 years old.

Lena Horne is best known for becoming the first black performer to be signed to a major Hollywood studio. She broke the barriers for black performers, especially on Broadway. Ms. Horne starred in several musicals and films, and was an active member of the NAACP, as she was passionate about civil rights. Although many in my generation don't know her, Lena Horne was a true black icon and paved the way for black performers.

Alicia Keys signed on to play Lena Horne in a biopic movie produced by Oprah back in 2008. The movie is supposed to be starting production this year.

Bruno Mars)” – is also sitting atop a number of other Billboard sales charts, including “Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums,” “Top Rap Albums,” and “Top Digital Albums”.

Johnnie Cabbell Responds to Lawsuits and Gucci Dissolving Their Relationship

Johnnie Cabbell, well known Atlanta booking agent once working for Gucci Mane and currently working Shawty Lo and Nicki Minaj, has responded to lawsuits brought against him, as well as Gucci cutting ties with him. Johnnie denies that Gucci has cut ties with his company stating, "“While it is being reported that my booking agency Hitt Afta Hitt is no longer working with Gucci Mane, I have yet to receive any type of correspondence from Gucci, the label, or anyone that supports that,” said Cabbell to AllHipHop.com. He went on to say, “I have known and worked with Gucci for over a decade. I have seen his career grow from being a local phenomenon into a household name and I feel like I helped play a minor role in his success.”

But in a statement that went out earlier this week, Gucci announced the end of his relationship with both Cabbell’s company and Debra Antney’s Mizay Entertainment, and stated that CAA, a popular LA-based booking agency that handles many of hip-hop’s superstars, was his new booking agency.

As far as the many lawsuits rumored to be brought against him, he responded saying “There are no federal criminal or civil lawsuits pending against me or my company Hitt Afta Hitt. My booking and management agency is still one of the largest in the South and we are still the official booker for rapper Nicki Minaj. We look forward to continued success and growth.”

We shall see.

DC Voting on Legalizing Marijuana Today

The D.C. Council is set to vote today on legalizing medical marijuana, thereby allowing the chronically ill -- including those with HIV, glaucoma or cancer -- to buy pot from dispensaries in Washington. (Washington Post)

This has already been projected to get passed with ease. DC has one of the highest weed smoking populations in the country. They know that if they legalize medical marijuana, they'll (the government) will be able to control circulation a little more. Although they are just voting to pass medical marijuana, this is only the first step in legalizing marijuana period. The full legalization of marijuana will come soon, believe that. Individual states are passing it one at a time. My state is coming soon, I just know it. Potheads all over the world will protest and cause havoc until they get their way.
